I want to show that fashion extends beyond just the clothing, and our cultures influence on fashion should be celebrated. I believe that it is vital to preserve and share African culture with the world, so our designs are influenced by the sights, sounds, food and music of Africa, and is meant to serve as a vehicle to break down many of the barriers that separate us and bring us together. It is my intention to break away from the normal pastel and neutral colors that are mostly available for mothers and their babies, and instead embrace the bold colors and patterns that make a statement.
I get asked a lot, “Why the bright colors and bold patterns?” For me it’s simple, O’Caiden was created with the idea that a child’s mental development is influenced using contrasting colors and engaging patterns. Though it is often believed that babies see in black and white, I believe newborns can see and distinguish among many colors, so I aimed to create clothing that is stimulating and fun for babies. I also believe that fun colors and designs can influence a baby’s mood, and possibly impact a baby’s confidence and morale. I believe bold designs and colors should have meaning, which is why I always say color symbolizes culture.
